Enable side-by-side video comparison
It's really valuable for athletes to see examples of good form. It's even more valuable for them to see bad form compared to good form.
For example, in volleyball, I want to demonstrate good--nay, **textbook**--hitting form and use Coach's Eye to record it. Then, I want to record a team member's hitting. Next, I want to see the two videos side-by-side and synchronize the them about the moment of ball contact. That way, I can show the approach, crouch, jump, reach, contact, follow through, and landing side by side, emphasizing the differences between good & bad form.
This would most… more

Excellent feedback Mathew. We realize that side-by-side comparisons is something that a lot of folks are keen to have. We hope to be able to tackle this in the near future. We’ll keep you posted.

Provide the ability to group videos together by athlete.
I'd like to take all of the jumps from an athlete, review them together and then upload them all as on video to YouTube. I'd like to also keep albums of each athlete so we can easily find video from previous competitions.

Thanks for the feedback Jason. We definitely have heard this feedback before and we love the idea. It’s on the radar and something we’d like to do. Our next steps are to allow you to rename the videos and search / filter content more easily. We are hoping to have this update done soon. Organizing / grouping / tagging is one of the next big things that we plan to take on. We’ll keep you updated about our progress.
Just out of curiosity are you using the app with an iPhone or iPad?

Coach's Eye for Windows tablet computers and Windows Phone
Develop Coach's Eye for Windows tablet computers and Windows Phone. As a professional tennis teaching academy, our pros use tablet computers to record student lessons and play action on the court. We then perform a video analysis with audio overlay, and review the resulting video with our students directly on the tablet computers.
We selected Windows-based devices to integrate with our existing network, and provide our staff with the same interface they use on the laptop and desktop computers. Currently we are using HTC phones with Windows 7 Phone, and Acer Iconia Tab W Series tablet computers with Window 7… more

Thanks for the feedback Greg. Speaking for our team, we’d love to see the phone on as many platforms as possible. However, we’re currently just a small group of iOS & web developers / designers. We will definitely pass your feedback on to TechSmith management.
On a separate note we’d love to talk with you a bit more to understand how you hear of the app. We’d also like to get a better understanding of how your tennis academy operates and how you see something like Coach’s Eye working with it. If you’re interested in further discussion please contact Brooks at b.andrus@techsmith.com.

Share video between iPhone and iPad
Apologies if this already exists! Being a CrossFit gym owner, I train on my own often. Due to this, I record video of myself often (usually Oly Lifts) on my iPhone as it has a flat bottom. I'm then keen to watch it back on my iPad due to screen resolution - any idea on how I can share this video (without e-mailing or SMS due to file size)?
Awesome app so far guys - I use it all the time.

Thanks for the feedback and the kind words. We’ve talked about adding sharing between devices via blue tooth, but it’s just a glimmer of an idea right now.
I don’t know of any apps that do this type of sharing off the top of my head (everything I’m aware of does http transfer). I’ll keep my eyes peeled and let you know what I find out.

I really like Coach's Eye when it is working
But very soon after installation on my iPhone, it just flashes when I try to start it. What am I doing wrong please?
It will work for a while when I reinstall it - then the same occurs. It's very frustrating when I want to capture technical details of a player.

Hey Tim, I’m really sorry you’re having trouble with the app.
I’ve never heard of this particular problem and I’m not sure I fully understand what you’re experiencing. Could you tell me a little bit more about about what you mean when you say it “just flashes?”
Also can you answer a few more questions?
What type of device do you have? What version of iOS are you running?
Have you checked to see if you’re running out of disk space?
Thanks for you patience. We’d really like to resolve this issue so please let us know your status.

Hey Scott, I’m extremely sorry to hear you’re having issues with the app—it absolutely shouldn’t be crashing every time to share a video via email or text message. Can you give us a little bit more info so we can attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First, are you running the latest version of the (latest version is 1.5). If not, which version of the app are you running (you can go to settings, find Coach’s Eye and tap on it to see the current version you’re running).
Have you been able to successfully email or text message from the app previously?
I assume you’re able to text message / email outside of the app normally (we actually just tap into the devices native email / sms systems so we should be behaving the same as the native email / sms client).
When does the crash occur (i.e. immediately after choosing… more

Thanks for the feedback Rex. You can actually do this if you have Coach’s Eye.
Scenario: You send an email / SMS to another coach who has Coach’s Eye.
That coach clicks on the link in the email / SMS on their iPhone / iPad.
Mobile Safari opens up with the video in question. The coach taps the “Open in Coach’s Eye” button just below the video.
Coach’s Eye automatically launches and the video in question is downloaded into it.
All of the analysis tools in Coach’s Eye can then be used to review the video.
Does that help at all?

Bulk delete.
I often don't intend to keep all the material I shot during a training session. I now have accumulated lots and lots of videos, because deleting every single video individually is cumbersome. Some form of selecting multiple videos for deletion would be great.

Thanks for the feedback Rex. We’d love to understand a little bit more about what you’re trying to do and why you’re trying to do it.
Lot’s of folks on the team have video editing backgrounds, but we’ve always viewed what we’re trying to do with this app as different from your typical non-linear video editor. Understanding what and why you’re trying to splice clips would really help.

include ability to move drawings
In olympic lifting being able to track your bar path is extremely important . Your software works extremely well but trying to hit that bar path 100% is pretty difficult. While an undo function (ver 2.0) will be greatly appreciated, the ability to manipulate/move the last added line (at the least) would be amazing.
Thanks and great job!!

Thanks for the feedback and kind words Jeff. We actually have some multi-touch functionality that will be coming in 2.1 which will help with precise placement of lines, circles and squares.
We’re considering adding manipulation of drawing after the fact, but we want to see if multi-touch combined with undo / redo addresses the problem.
Thanks again and keep the feedback coming.

Grid overlay option?

Thanks for the feedback James. All great ideas. With regard to the grid overlay option I assume you’re looking for this to be an option when you are analyzing the video?
Measured angles is on the to do list.
We are considering some other options for quick navigation of the video. In the meantime, you can flick the wheel fast and the velocity of scrubbing increases tremendously. You can actually scrub to the front or the back of really long videos with just a few quick swipes.

Hey Brendan, I’m very sorry to hear you’re having issues. Unfortunately it looks like something has been corrupted. Here’s what you’ll need to do to get up and running,
1) Delete the app from your device. Unfortunately you will lose any of the videos you currently have in the app.
2) Go to the app and re-download and install the app. (You won’t be charged for reinstalling).
Please let me know if you’re able to get back and running. We really want you to be able to enjoy the app.

Only send email links after upload is successful.
With latest app and latest iOS on iphone 4 my app crashes or just stops uploading without any error given about 70% of the time when sharing via email. While this is a pain and I would love suggestions because without reliable sharing the apps usefulness is greatly diminished, my suggestion is not to actually send the composed email until the video has a confirmed upload. Sending broken link after broken link to parents or coaches is confusing and not so professional. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Mike, I’m really sorry you’re having sharing issues. We aren’t happy with the current way that emailing / SMS works and are working on some things that will make this a better experience.
That said, we haven’t run into any situation where uploads are crashing or not finishing at a 70% rate (our data shows about a 3% upload failure rate). We’d like to know more about your situation so we can troubleshoot this and get to the bottom of the issue.
Questions for you:
How long are the videos that you’re trying to share?
Is this happening on wireless and 3G connections?
When on 3G what type of connection speed are you getting? Poor connection can contribute to iOS killing our app before the upload completes.
As I mentioned, we know there’s some pain with the current system and we’re working to address the problems.
Thanks again for… more

Disclose what data you send from our phones Even better, stop doing it!
Why is this app sending data? It used 2MB when I reviewed a video for a student. That is unethical. I do not want to have to turn off my cellular service every time I use the app.

Hi. It is not possible to have a video file from my PC in the software.
Hi I Just can`t put the video file I recorded from a camera, and the video file is in my PC to be analysed in the software. You should have any other way to make this.
And, maybe something to maximize a part of the moviment would be great to see in the analyse.
Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. We support the import of videos compatible with iOS and the particular hardware of the the device (there is some variance in specs between the different generations of Apple iPhones and iPads).
The good news is you can import videos directly from many of today’s consumer / prosumer cameras.
We’ve created a tutorial for importing footage from GoPro cameras. We’ve also created a couple of tutorials that address how to move videos from your device to your pc using Dropbox.

We're trying something new with a limited edition basketball themed icon in Coach's Eye 1.4. What do you think? Like it, hate it, don't care, want to see more special icons in the future, etc.
